This poem emerged from a co-creative writing process during the "Weaving the Self" session for the 2025 Weavership cohort. The weavers-in-training collectively pondered three prompts: "I am weaving into myself...", "A woven self is...", and "If all selves were weaved...". This is what emerged!
A woven self is belonging
I am weaving into myself the courage to be whoever I want to be
If all selves were weaved, we would be able to walk, together, in the direction of intergenerational understanding, intersectional justice, and enduring peace
I am weaving into myself no matter the barriers. I choose myself even when no one chooses me
I am weaving into myself permission to experience and express every emotion offered through our human nature
I am weaving into myself a sense of hope and connection to others
If all selves were weaved, all selves would be complete, we would be a big tapestry
Weaving is system change
I am continuously becoming whole, no matter the obstacles. I choose myself—even when no one else does
If all selves were weaved we wouldn't have WAR
If all selves were weaved we’d have the internal strength needed to transform our world
A woven self is calm, rested, ready and belonged
I am weaving myself into someone who embraces every facet of myself
If all selves were weaved, we would have functional communities, systems and generations
I am weaving into myself the change I want to see in the world
I am weaving into myself, firmly rooted in unexpressed feeling, a catalyst for inspiration, courage, and change
I am weaving into myself the internal strength to act with love, grace and kindness to myself and my immediate ecosystem
I'm weaving myself into someone who sees how important I am
A woven self is a woman who has figured out how to be present, real and kind and messy if need be
If all selves were weaved, we would have a common goal, shared values and a strong commitment change
I'm weaving myself into someone who is authentic
Weaving is gradually changing my life
I am weaving myself back to wholeness by connecting with Earth. I am Earth. Earth is Me.
